Leading Democrats in the US House of Representatives have called on US President Donald Trump to fire Kristi Noem.
Otherwise, they have warned they will initiate impeachment proceedings against the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, following the murder of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis over the weekend.
“The violence unleashed on the American people by the Department of Homeland Security must end immediately. Kristi Noem must be fired immediately, or we will initiate impeachment proceedings in the House of Representatives,” said Hakeem Jeffries, along with his two deputies, Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar, in a joint statement.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way.”
Trump has come out in support of Noem, telling reporters at the White House: “I think she’s doing a very good job. The border is completely secure.”
