British American Tobacco (BAT) named one of the world’s best employers for the ninth consecutive year

The renowned international organization Top Employer Institute has named British American Tobacco (BAT) as one of the 17 best employers in the world for the ninth consecutive year.

The global Top Employer certification recognizes employers that offer best employment practices, enabling employees to develop personally and professionally, while achieving business results.

Corra Koppe-Starenberg, Executive Director for Human Resources at BAT, stated after receiving this assessment:

“Being recognized as a Global Top Employer for the ninth consecutive year – and receiving this recognition in a record 44 certified markets – is a proud moment for BAT. This achievement reflects our unwavering commitment to creating an inclusive, empowering and high-performing environment where our people can develop and grow. Our success is driven by our people and we will continue to invest in their development and our culture as we transform our business and deliver a Better Future™.”

With operations in 125 countries and regions, Top Employer Institute is the global authority on HR certification, benchmarking and consulting. Its certification program evaluates organizations based on the results of the HR Best Practices Survey, which covers six key areas with 20 topics, including Employee Strategy, Work Environment, Talent Acquisition, Learning and Development, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, and Wellbeing.

Top Employer Institute Executive Director Adrian Seligman commented on this year’s awards:

“Achieving Global Top Employer status in 2026 is a remarkable achievement that reflects excellence in individual countries and, above all, sustainable practices for employees across regions and around the world. BAT has demonstrated a rare ability to align global HR strategy, while delivering meaningful and locally tailored experiences for employees in each certified market – a hallmark of organizations that deliver strong business performance, talent mobility and workforce sustainability. This achievement positions BAT among a select group of employers that benchmark employee strategy internationally. We are incredibly proud to continue our partnership with them as they inspire excellence in the global HR community.”

BAT is one of only 17 companies to have received the global Top Employer certification. BAT subsidiaries have also been recognized as leading employers in a record 44 countries across Europe, North America, South America, the Middle East, Asia and Africa. The Top Employer Institute makes these awards by analyzing companies’ human resources practices in six areas: Strategic Management, Shaping Transformation, Employee Attraction, Workforce Development, Employee Engagement and Uniting Employees through Culture.
