A major brawl broke out in the Turkish parliament this Wednesday, turning political debates into physical clashes between deputies.
The cause was the attempt by opposition MPs to prevent the newly appointed Minister of Justice, Akin Gyrlek, from ascending the podium to take the oath.
The opposition considers Gyurlek the architect of the political arrests, as he has led investigations against the president’s main rivals, including Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, who was impeached last year.
The situation escalated into fistfights until deputies from President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan’s party intervened.
In the end, amidst the chaos and cheers of his supporters, Gyrlek managed to take the oath surrounded by a human fence of ruling party colleagues.
