Nine people have died after a shooting in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Six people were found dead inside a high school and police say another person died on the way to the hospital.
Two other people were found dead in an apartment. Police believe this incident is also linked to the massacre.
The shooter was confirmed dead earlier this afternoon. Police said the suspect was found dead inside the school and is believed to have committed suicide.
Two people were transported by helicopter to the hospital with serious life-threatening injuries. Another 25 people are being evaluated for injuries at a local medical center, authorities said.
Police said they would investigate “all circumstances surrounding this incident.” “This was a rapidly evolving and dynamic situation, and the immediate cooperation from the school, emergency services and the community played a critical role in our response,” Northern District Chief Ken Floyd wrote in a statement.
“Our thoughts are with the families, loved ones and all those affected by this tragic incident. This has been an extremely difficult day for our community, and we are grateful for the cooperation shown as officers continue to work to advance the investigation.”
Police said they do not believe there are any other suspects, or any ongoing danger to the public. They said they are checking homes and other properties in the community to find anyone else who may be injured or connected to the incident.
Additional police officers, including those from the Serious Crimes Unit, are being deployed to the community to work on the investigation.
